Bratislava Destination Guide

Come to Bratislava and visit the old city and the castle, often known as the best parts of Bratislava! The Austrian border is almost within sight of the city and Hungary is just sixteen kilometres away! The other major tourist trip to make is to Imperial Vienna, for which you would have to drive through small and charming Austrian villages. While in Vienna, you will have the opportunity to visit some of the major sights like Schonbrunn. On the way back, do make a stop and taste the local specialties in a wine cellar - turned village pub!

Another fun thing to do is to rent a bike and ride into the picturesque countryside along the Moravia River. You could also return to the city centre on a sightseeing boat by boarding it at the Devin Castle.

This Bratislava Destination Guide below, along with our Bratislava Tour Suggestions will tell you all you need to know about the best places to visit in Bratislava. For tips on how to get around in Bratislava, read our Bratislava Transport Guide. For more general information about things to see & do, check out our Slovakia Destination Guide.

Things to See & Do in Bratislava

An interesting start to your holiday in Bratislava would be to take the minitrain called 'Presporacik', with guided tours in various languages. You could also hire a car and drive along the Danube to explore the magnificient Devin Castle ruins.

Take half a day off to see the Small Carpathian Wine Route, which has been known for its wine since Roman times. This would take you through Svaty Jur, Pezinok, Modra and the Cerveny Kamen Castle.

A good place for the history and geology fans is the Driny Cave and Trnava. Spend an entire day here, explore the unique Driny Cave, with its spectacular toothed-edged curtain shaped mineral formations, waterfalls and pools. Trnava is, of course, the oldest royal town in Slovakia!

A full-day tour at Zahorie will showcase the region's rich traditional history, complete with the typical pine wood landscape, hills of the White Carpathians, historic sights and surviving folk traditions. You must also visit Holic, Skalica and the well-known pilgrimage site of the Basilica of the Mater Dolorosa.

Slavin Monument - Bratislava

The Slavin War Memorial is a monument on a hill overlooking Bratislava, formally called Heavenly Peak. It was renamed Slavin and commemorates the fallen soldiers who liberated Bratislava in 1945. The cemetery is part of a park and trees from various parts of the former Soviet Union were planted. On a fine summers evening the view from here is spectacular overlooking Bratislava.

Kamzik TV Tower

Kamzik TV Tower was built in 1975 and at a height of 200 metres is the highest building in Bratislava. There is a rotating restaurant called "Kamzik" inside. Hear you can have a very good meal at a reasonable price and when the weather is right you can see Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary and of course Slovakia.

New Bridge's Tower Bratislava

Built between 1967 and 1972 across the River Danube, the bridge of the Slovak National Uprising (New Bridge) is one of the largest cable stayed bridge in the world! High above Bratislava you can now enjoy a great view with super menu brought to you by the internationally acclaimed chef Andrew Benjamin. To get to the restaurant you must take the elevator in one of the pylons which holds up to 10 people. This is accessible from below. The restaurant was recently refurbished to a very high standard.
